   Lately I've been thinking about what inspires us most as artist? or anything that we love doing. i guess it's pretty important to be inspired and having the drive to do what we do, and in my case drawing. It deals a lot with what we see and how we feel about our daily experience, either good, bad or ugly. It's a point of view, a state of mind, perception and understanding. Back in my college years we were encourage to keep a sketch journal on everything and anything we do or at least on our ideas that we have or might have, writing it down and sketching whatever we feel and think that interest us.
A good way in keeping up with our ideas and life experience, which sometimes can be daunting if we are going through a bad phase in our life, but i guess its the whole part of the process. Its actually documenting the events that unfolds in our life into a creative writing and visual sketch.

   Normal journal would be good, but usually its better with visuals, especially with our own visual interpretation. Having this journal keeps our ideas flowing and referable, so that in later times we always have a book of ideas to look at, whenever we run out of it lol. Which i always do nowdays compared to my days in college. One of the reason is that i never did have a continuos journal like what i just write about, its always unfinshed and discontinued lol, well i just suck at keeping journals i guess. Having said that, the unfinished journal still played its part in generating some ideas for me, so it wasn't a total lost, imagine a whole stack of visual journals could do for us.

   So rather than forcing our brains into oblivion looking for ideas, we document it in our everyday lives, which would save time and help us in the long run. Well anyways, I guess everyone knows this by now, i'm just revisiting some of my past and sharing it here in this journal. But it's always good to revitalize what we know and try to think about it in another perspective. Sometimes we get different answer from the same thing.  :D

i did keep normal journals (only writings) few years back, and then after that i wanted to do a visual diary. tapi sayangnya tak penah abis satu buku :(. Now i only keep a sketchbook, but lol is visual diary are the same with normal sketchbook? what are the differences it would make? Same thing, we're still drawing, sketching, doodling, keeping those ideas flowing on the paper!

at least that's what i think ^^;

btw, which college have you been?

well visual diary is usually more in depth, theres writings and visual to accompany them, sketch book are mostly drawings n doodling, visual diary tends to be more organized in the sense that it motivates the sketcher to think deeper and also adding some foot notes and reference (picture, news paper cut outs etc) to what they currently experience, kinda like a scrap book too lol. Some ppl will write like a short story or something, then they'll sketch it out according to what they write, some just sketches with bubble text lol, but it really depends on the individual, and of course...mood haha! but its basically about how we manage our ideas.

This is all mumbo jumbo to me too when i first learn about it lol, thats why i didn't really do it, i'm more of a sketch book type ;P but thinking about it now, somehow makes more sense :D

I went to LUCT, well my time was LICT lol
